They are on some sandy soil and they grow good and taste great. We were dry for the last 6 weeks and I only had time to water twice but we just had 2 inches now they have gone wild. I never thought about them having kinda of a set number but everything you guys have said it making sense. It was a smaller sized one but they do get big or "normal" sized for the most part. I am in northern South Dakota so I just harvested my first melon yesterday. The average size watermelon has 300 to 350 seeds per melon If you planted your garden melons from seed, most likely you planted an older seeded variety, those are much cheaper and easier to grow than the seedless melons. Grow them just like hybrid seedcorn, plant female plants that you harvest the melons off of and male pollinators to make the cross, the cross is what makes them not express the seed. My theory is that a melon has a fixed number of seeds, so the large melons appear to have fewer seeds than the smaller ones. Why does it seem my watermelons have lots of seeds? Many more than store bought ones. Posted 10:32 (#5466734) Subject: Home grown melons Home grown melons Jump to page : 1 Now viewing page 1
